Travelling and subsistence expenses to attend the hearing
The Department/Agency must pay for the following in connection with each hearing:
-
travel and subsistence of the appellant; any civil servant assisting the appellant or any non-civil servant assisting the appellant (with the exception of a full-time trade union representative, barrister or solicitor) who, with the Board’s agreement, attends with the appellant; and
-
loss of earnings, where appropriate, incurred by the appellant or any non-civil servant (with the exception of a full-time trade union representative or solicitor or barrister) who, with the Board’s agreement, attends with the appellant.
Departments/Agencies are not obliged to meet the cost of overnight accommodation or the costs of an appellant who wishes to attend an earlier hearing as an observer.
These rules are set out in chapter 12 of The Civil Service Management Code, 12.1.41 (a) and (b) and appellants should contact the Department/Agency directly for further details of how to claim.
